The Life of FLOYD ERNEST HOUSER

Floyd E. Houser, 89, passed away March 9, 2012, at the VA Hospital in Des Moines. He was born August 18, 1922, in Stockton, Kansas, to Austin and Bessie Parrish, but lived most of his life in Des Moines. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Floyd worked for Rock Island Motor Transit for 32 years, and then at Crouse Cartage for 6 years until his retirement. He enjoyed farming when he was younger, mowing, bowling, walking, and he raised and trained dogs. Floyd is survived by his children, Shirl (Lee) Wagner, Jim (Megan) Houser, and Tim Houser; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara J. Houser; siblings, Earl Parrish, David T. Parrish, and Viola Ruble; and step-mother, Effie Parrish. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 15, 2012, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 16, at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of Floyd.
