The Life of GEORGIA MAE BETTIS
Georgia Bettis, 90, died Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at Genesis Senior Living Center in Des Moines. The graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2012 at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Georgia was born August 11, 1921 in New Hampton, Iowa to Clara (Boots) and Glen Baumgardner. She worked as a nurse’s aide at Blank Emergency Room and Iowa Methodist Medical Center Emergency Room for 28 years. She was a very talented writer of poetry and songs, and loved working as a nurse’s aide. In high school, she was a member of the drum and bugle corps who ended up going to Niagara Falls and they wound up winning the championship there!
Georgia is survived by her son, Thomas (Suzy) Bettis; her daughters: Barbara Conn and Marcia Bettis; eight grandchildren; and sixteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Claude; four brothers: Joe, Bob, Charles and James; two step brothers and her granddaughter, Shannon.
