The Life of Julian Wayne Underwood

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 16, 2012 at a 3:00 PM Service in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for Julian Wayne "J.W." Underwood (Punkin), 65, who died on Friday, January 13, 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.

Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pastor Rodney Chitwood of First Baptist Church in Breaux Bridge, will officiate the funeral services.

Mr. Underwood is survived by two daughters, Lela Daigle and her husband, Phillip and Sarah Gonzales and her husband, Chad; one son, Matthew Underwood and his wife, Michelle; four grandchildren, Tyler Daigle and his wife, Megan, Donovan Underwood, Rayne Underwood, and Alex Gonzales; two sisters, Sheila Hooker of Truman, AR. and Mary Miller of Duson, LA; and five brothers, Bobby (Goat) Underwood, Jerald (Spud) Underwood, Bill Underwood all of Texarkana, TX, James (Rusty) Underwood of Atlanta, TX and Don Underwood of Lewisberg, LA.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Ann Guillot Underwood; one son, Jeffery Scott Underwood; his parents, Claude Harrison Underwood and Lillie Beatrice Scott Underwood; his sister, Betty Ruth Lancaster; and five brothers, Jim Johnson, Paul (Pete) Underwood, John Andrew Underwood, Mike Underwood and Bruce Underwood.

Julian Wayne "J.W." Underwood was born on June 2, 1946 in Tomato, Arkansas to Claude and Lillie Underwood. "Punkin", as he was known to many of his friends and family, worked in the oilfield as a cementer for many years. He moved to south Louisiana in 1968 and at that time was employed by Williams McWilliams until 1970. He went to work for Dowell until 1986 and then worked at Southern Oilfield Services until a medical retirement was necessary. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Daigle, Phillip Daigle, Joe Underwood, Chad Gonzales, John Bourque and John Knight. Honorary Pallbearers will be Donovan Underwood, Rayne Underwood and Alex Gonzales.

The family requests that visitation be observed at Martin & Castille''s DOWNTOWN location on Sunday, January 15, 2012 from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM and will continue on Monday, January 16, 2012 from 8:00 AM until time of services.
