The Life of Marie Louise Savoy

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 23, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Edmond Roman Catholic Church in Lafayette for Marie Mouton Savoy, 90, who passed away Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Maison de Lafayette in Lafayette. Interment will follow in Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery in Lafayette. Rev. Father Gilbert J. Dutel will officiate. Marie was born Sunday, February 13, 1921 in Carencro and was a lifelong resident of Acadiana. Marie was a graduate of Mt. Carmel High School, worked at Keller’s Bakery in Lafayette, Southern Pacific Railroad, the Lafayette Parish School System and eventually USL, now UL-Lafayette, until her retirement in 1986. Devout in her faith, Marie was active in St. John Cathedral parish and later in St. Edmond’s parish. Marie enjoyed socializing with family and friends, loved a good Bourré game and enjoyed all genres of music. Marie was a great cook and always prepared the most amazing meals. She was dedicated to supporting her family and was a loving mother, hard worker and gentle soul. Most of all, Marie lived a long, beautiful life and brought joy to everyone she met. Her spirit lives on in the lives of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and countless cousins and friends. Rest in peace, our sweet “Sis-Sis”. Marie is survived by five children, her three daughters Flo S. Castille and her husband Brent and Laura S. Canter and her husband Dennis, all of Lafayette and Roberta S. Higginbotham and her husband Stevie of Scott, as well as two sons, Robert Savoy and his wife Roquel of New Orleans and Raymond Cordova and his wife Jennifer, also of Lafayette; nine grandchildren, Adrien and Shauna Canter, Rosann Roberts, Emma Castille, Ashley Bourgeois, Ella and Lily Savoy, Denise Breaux and Greg Cordova; eight great-grandchildren, Dillon, Hannah, and Marc Canter, James and Eli Meaux, Chet and Chase Breaux and Dominique Pizze; one sibling, Sister Fatima Mouton of Abbeville; a sister-in-law, Aline Langlinais Mouton of Lafayette; and numerous dear cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 20 years, Fred John Savoy; her parents Rene J. Mouton and the former Elise Martin; one granddaughter, Lindsey Higginbotham; her five brothers, Fred, Antoine “Zu-Zu”, Locke and Ernest Mouton and her twin, Marion “Buster” Mouton; one sister, Mathilde Mouton Olivier; and daughter-in-law, Karen Schoffs Cordova. Visiting hours will be observed at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette on Sunday, January 22, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and resume Monday, January 23, 2012 at 8:00 a.m. until time of services. A rosary will be recited on Sunday evening, January 22, 2012 by Marie''s sister, Sister Fatima Mouton and Sisters of Mt. Carmel at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Pallbearers will be Brent Castille, Dennis Canter, Stevie Higginbotham, Adrien Canter, Jon Bourgeois and Leo Olivier.
