The Life of CLIFFORD FREDERICK HEMMINGS Jr.

Clifford Frederick Hemmings, Junior, was born on July 15, 1928, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. He concluded his earthly life on Sunday, January 22, 2012, at University Park Nursing Home in Des Moines, in the loving care of Hospice and the comfort of the nursing home environment. Clifford has spent his entire life in Des Moines, experiencing first hand the fruits of Iowa’s capitol city. Clifford attended Byron Rice Elementary school in the Beaverdale area and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1947. While attending high school, Clifford exhibited his ambition by working for awhile in the grocery industry at Thriftway Supermarkets. Upon graduation from Roosevelt High School, Clifford worked for a time for the Iowa Des Moines National Bank. Following his banking career, Clifford furthered his education by attending AIB Business School, where he honed his typing skills and took business related courses. Later, Clifford worked in the advertising profession in the Des Moines area. Clifford was known for his good heart and generous nature, as well as his resiliency for problem solving and survival. Unfortunately, Clifford battled ill health for a variety of maladies for much of his life, but he always overcame whatever obstacles were in his path. In later years, plagued by his ill health, Clifford was a resident of University Nursing and Rehab Home located at 233 University Avenue in Des Moines, where he received excellent and caring attention from a dedicated and compassionate staff. Clifford is survived by his brother, Bruce, and his wife, Maj-Lis of Modesto, CA; a nephew, Brad Hemmings of Los Angeles, CA; cousins, Bob Hemmings, Beverly Vowell, Donna Abrego and Kim Thatcher. Further, a wonderful friend, Tom Maly, has been a faithful and dedicated guardian of Clifford’s well being. Funeral services will be 12 p.m., Thursday, February 2, 2012, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Clifford was an extraordinary human being and will be missed by all who knew him.>>
