The Life of BARBARA MARIE GODFREY
Barbara M. Godfrey, 73, died Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at home, after a courageous three-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, January 13, 2012, at Capitol Hill Christian Church, 3322 E. 25th Street, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.
Barbara was born June 9, 1938, to Clare and Dorothy (Moore) Richards in Des Moines. She had worked in the accounting departments of MGM, Broadlawns Hospital, Richman Brothers, Younkers and retired from the Des Moines School District. Barbara enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and loved attending their music and sporting events. She had a passion for hot air ballooning and recently experienced her first flight. Barbara was a lifelong member of Capitol Hill Christian Church as were her parents and grandparents before her.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 54 years, Ed Godfrey; children, Mark (Heidi) Godfrey of Lisbon, Iowa, Cheryl (Tom) King of Olathe, Kansas, Karyn (Dave) Thompson of Overland Park, Kansas and Julie (Shawn) Wolfe of Ankeny; grandchildren, Jessica, Ian, Matthew, Andrew, Joseph, Zach, Nicholas, Ashley, Tyler, Cody and Darrin; sisters, Ginger (Bob) Crawford, Patty (Denny) Maiers and Peggy (Dick) Stoffer, all of West Des Moines; and a host of other extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Nancy Richards.
