The Life of Mary Marsiglia

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, August 30, 2006 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers in Lafayette for Mary Szathmary Marsiglia, 87, who died Sunday, August 27, 2006 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.
Interment will be held at Lafayette Memorial Park.
Mary was born in Pageton, West Virginia on December 8th, 1918 and grew up in Trenton, New Jersey. Prior to the war she worked in a factory in Trenton making porcelain dolls. She later contributed to the war effort during the World War II by packing parachutes for the U.S. paratroopers fighting in Europe and the Pacific. She married her husband Sam in 1945 and moved to Lafayette where she raised her children and helped to raise her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially Bonnie and Winnie and Molly with whom she spent Tuesdays and Thursdays exploring various stores and restaurants in the area. Mary was kind and gracious to everyone she met and she will be greatly missed.
Survivors include three sons, Matthew P. Marsiglia of Carencro, Kenneth M. Marsiglia and his wife, Shirley, of Ponchatoula, LA, and Samuel P. Marsiglia and his wife, Sandy, of Lake Charles, LA; eleven grandchildren, Scott Marsiglia, Keli Landau, Matt Marsiglia, Jr., Kenneth Marsiglia, Jr., Michael Marsiglia, Rachel Menard, Amy Marsiglia, Jonathan Marsiglia, Anthony Marsiglia, Samantha Marsiglia, and Shelby Hoffpauir; one great-grandson, Gavyn Menard; two great-granddaughters Alexandria Marsiglia and Julia Dalfrey; and her sister, Marge Szathmary Watkin of Trenton, New Jersey; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends in Louisiana, New Jersey and West Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Marsiglia; her parents, Martin and Susan Szathmary who immigrated from Hungary at the turn of the century; her brothers, Bert Szathmary, Bill Szathmary, Joe Szathmary and Steve Szathmary; her sisters, Irene Czajkowski and Elizabeth Dunch.
The family requests the visiting hours be observed Tuesday from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm and will continue Wednesday from 8:00 am until time of service.
Pallbearers will be Scott Marsiglia, Jonathan Marsiglia, Anthony Marsiglia, Steve Menard, Brian Lavin and Marc Taylor.
Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, is in charge of all funeral arrangements.
