The Life of Myrtle Sigur Gajan

Funeral services will be held at a Mass of Christian Burial at 3:00 pm on Friday, March 6, 2009 at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for Myrtle Sigur Gajan, 95, who passed away on March 3, 2009 at Lady of the Oaks Retirement Manor. Reverend Monsignor Keith J. DeRouen, Pastor of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Gajan, a resident of Lafayette, Louisiana, was the daughter of the late Rene Sigur and the former Armosa Laporte of Vermilion Parish, Louisiana. She was a member of Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. She enjoyed playing cards, tending to her plants, cooking and spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Mercedes Schonfeld; grandson, Donnie Schonfeld; brother, Rene Sigur, Jr. and one sister, Rita Frederick. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Porteous A. Gajan; one brother and one sister. The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Thursday, March 5, 2009 from 11:00 am until 8:00 pm, and will continue at 8:00 am on Friday until time of services. A rosary will be recited at 5:00 pm Thursday in the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Steve Regan, Donnie Schonfeld, Michael Vallot, Larry Comeaux. Honorary pallbearers will be A.C. Fondren and J.U. "Mickey" Gajan. Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand DriveLafayette, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
