The Life of Flossie Marine

Funeral services will be held at a 3:00 pm Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church for Flossie Landry Marine, 84, who gracefully passed away Sunday, April 22, 2007, surrounded by her family and friends in the comfort of her own home after courageously facing a brief terminal illness. She was a native of Ricohoc and resident of Lafayette for 61 years.

Interment will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park following the funeral Mass. Reverend Jules Arceneaux will conduct the services. Con Celebrant will be Reverend Monsignor Harry Benefiel.

Flossie was born January 10, 1923 to Stanley and Effie Landry in Ricohoc, Louisiana. She married the late Godfrey ''Buddy'' Marine on June 7, 1946. They settled in Lafayette after they were married and moved to the family home in 1963 where their home became a center point in their lives. It served as a meeting point before and after school, common ground for Mardi Gras festivities and the occasional late-night dinner.

She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was known as ''Moma'' to her children, ''Aunt Flossie'' to their friends and her nieces and nephews, and ''Moma Flossie'' to her grandchildren, great grandchildren and their friends who had the chance to know her. She truly was the universal mother, aunt and grandmother to all. And above all, the epitome of a Southern Lady. Gracious and elegant, she was ever concerned with others before herself. Even as she was nearing her death, she''d ask questions to each visitor about happenings in their life. And ''thank you darlin''s'' were flowing without a second thought for any act done for her care.

Flossie is survived by her daughters, Cyd Gray, Dru Patin and her husband, Harry, Jr. and Dani Marine; her son, Godfrey ''Brother'' Marine and his wife, Patti; her grandchildren, Blaine Gray and his wife, Elizabeth, Megan Marine Perkins and her husband, Jason, Ryan Marine and his wife, Jennifer, Emily and Michael Marine, Kendall, Brian and Brandt Etier; her great grandchildren, Brody and Abel Gray, Hayes, Mary Elizabeth and Samuel Perkins, and Ainsley Etier, all of Lafayette. She is also survived by her sister, Wiley Robicheaux of Franklin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Godfrey ''Buddy'' Marine; her sisters, Myrtle Oster and Helen Miller; and her son-in-law, Larry Gary.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Paul Breaux and Dr. Luis Meza and his staff. They would also like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Harold Chastant, Yvette LeBlanc, Madeleine Fincke and the rest of the loving staff at Hospice of Acadiana. They would like to recognize Camille Claibourne and Sylvia Oats for their endless care and dedication.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed Tuesday from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm, with a rosary at 7:00 pm, and continue Wednesday from 11:00 am until time of service.

Pallbearers will be Blaine Gray, Ryan Marine, Michael Marine, Brian Etier, Jr., Brandt Etier, Mike Michot, Robert Miller and Dale Robicheaux.
