The Life of Louis Alvin Carlton

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at First Baptist Church of Lafayette for Louis “Lou” Carlton, 79, who passed away Monday, November 26, 2007 at Lafayette General Medical Center. Reverend Steve Horn, Pastor of First Baptist Church of Lafayette, Dr. Perry Sanders, and Reverend Robert Richardson, will conduct the funeral services. Interment will be held in Lafayette Memorial Park. Mr. Carlton, born in Vernon, Texas in 1928 and raised in Denton, Texas, was a resident of Lafayette. He was the son of the late Louis Albert Carlton of Lindsey, Oklahoma and the former Lillian Sweatman of Fargo, Texas. Louis served as a Courier in the United States Army from 1951 until 1953. He graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He retired from Exxon USA after 32 years of service. He was a member of Acadiana Exxon Annuitant’s Club. He was a member of API and SPE. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lafayette; where he served as yokefellow. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Henson Carlton of Lafayette; two sons, David Carlton of Nairobi, Kenya, and Richard Carlton of Glastonbury, Connecticut; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Cook of Dallas, Texas, and Lillian Carlton of Garland, Texas; and two brothers, Don Carlton of Denton, Texas, and Glen Carlton of Meadowlakes, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Barbara Thompson; and one brother, Billy Marion Carlton. Visiting hours will be observed on Tuesday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Delhomme Funeral Home and will continue on Wednesday from 10:00 am until service time at First Baptist Church of Lafayette. Pallbearers will be Bob Garrett, Joe Dowdy, Larry Baker, Claude Fuqua, Oliver Carmichael, Jr., and Al Pringle. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Stith, and the Daybreak Bible Study Class. Memorial contributions may be sent in the name of Lou Carlton to the National Parkinson Foundation, Inc., Office of Development, 1501 NW 9th Avenue, Miami, Florida 33136-1494; the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering through First Baptist Church of Lafayette, or the First Baptist Church Missionary House Fund, 1100 Lee Avenue, Lafayette, Louisiana 70501. Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, will be in charge of the arrangements.
