The Life of Vivian Ann Savoy

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at 1:00PM at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Lafayette for Vivian A. Savoy, 84, who died at her residence at Azalea Estates Retirement Community on October 4, 2008, at 2:30 PM. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park on Pinhook Road in Lafayette. The Rev. Steve LeBlanc, pastor of St. Pius X Catholic Church will celebrate the Funeral Mass. Serving as pallbearers will be her five sons, and her oldest grandson, M. Scott deMahy.

Ms. Savoy was born on September 3, 1924, and lived in Lafayette for several years prior to her retirement in New Iberia. She was referred to as the Garden Lady at St. Pius X for almost ten years. Ms. Savoy was a retired teacher in the Louisiana school system where she taught high school math, as well as served as an associate professor of Math at ULL (then USL). She also taught in high schools in the Austin, Texas area and in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. After her retirement Vivian spent a good deal of time traveling around the world, sometimes camping, and loved to meet people in the other countries. She also enjoyed painting, photography and sewing. She loved her church, her family and her friends, and loved helping people.

Vivian is survived by her seven children: Patrick Douglas Sterling of Clemson, S.C. and wife, Tamara; Marilyn S, deMahy of St. Martinville and husband, Judge Paul J. deMahy; Michael Brent Melody of Marco Island, FL, and wife, Susan; Dale Andrew Snoddy of Miami, FL; Philip Lee Snoddy of Pine Grove, LA, and wife, Fran; Marc Robert Snoddy of Ocean Springs, MS; and Anita S Moerbe of Taylor, TX, and husband, Gary; two sisters, Sylvia S. Tuminello and Joyce S. Scallan, both of Alexandria, LA, and one brother, Jacques L. Savoy of Baton Rouge, LA, and wife, Mona, sixteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

She was pre-deceased in death by her parents - Jack Savoy and Amanda Blanche Elliot Savoy, her sister Doris Mae Savoy, and her grandchildren – Daniel Snoddy and Bryan Mathew Snoddy.

The family requests that visiting hours at David Funeral Home on the Youngsville Highway in Lafayette (Broussard) be observed from 9:30AM until the time of the services. A special thank you to Ms. Savoy Hospice attendants, Azalea Estates staff, and to her private sitters during her time of illness. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of Acadiana or American Cancer Society.
