The Life of James Wilson Davis

A memorial service to celebrate the life of James Wilson Davis will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 20, 2007 at First Presbyterian Church, 1130 Johnston Street, Lafayette, Louisiana 70501. The Reverend Rhodes Stipp will conduct the service, followed by a reception in the church’s Fellowship Hall. Mr. Davis passed away Sunday, January 14, 2007. Mr. Davis was born December 4th, 1909 in Carlinville, Illinois to Dr. James Henry Davis and Olive Wilson Davis. He grew up in Carlinville and graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri in 1931. He went to work in the hotel business for the Moody family in Galveston, Texas. He served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1943 through 1945 and finished his career as an insurance agent for Employers Casualty Company of Dallas, Texas. He is survived by his sons, James W. Davis, Jr. and James E. Enloe, and his daughter, Myrna E. Patrick. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Betty, and his wife, Lorene Vestal Davis. Mr. Davis has been an active member of First Presbyterian Church since moving to Lafayette in 1996. Prior to that time, Mr. and Mrs. Davis had been long term members and elders at First Christian Church in El Paso, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to First Presbyterian Church in Mr. Davis’s honor. The family would like to thank the staff at Rosewood Retirement Community for their kind and compassionate care during the past three years that Mr. Davis has lived there. Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, is in charge of all funeral arrangements.
