The Life of Roy A Barousse

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 30, 2006, at 11:00 am, at St. Pius X Catholic Church for Roy A. Barousse, 82, who passed away Thursday, December 28, 2006 at his residence. Interment will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park. Reverend Monsignor Richard von Phul Mouton, Pastor of St. Pius X Catholic Church will conduct the funeral services. Mr. Barousse, a native of Church Point and a resident of Lafayette, was the son of the late Jean Barousse and the former Bessie Higginbotham both of Church Point. Roy is survived by his wife, Chlorita Guidry Barousse; four sons, Michael, Philip and his wife, Melanie Sandoz Barousse, Patrick and his wife, Darylin Savoie Barousse, and Jerry and his wife, Shannon McCullough Barousse; one daughter, Christine and her husband, John Carlson; two brothers, Harold and Charles Barousse; five sisters, Nelda Thibodeaux, Audrey Aldridge, Junie Miller, Louise Briscoe, and Lucille Huckaby; twelve grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jean and Bessie Barousse; and two siblings, John “Blue” Barousse and Hattie Barousse Cummings. Roy retired as a Lt. Colonel from the U.S. Air Force in 1970 after serving during World War II in the Army Air Corp. (now known as the U.S. Air Force), the Korean War, and the Vietnam Conflict. During his military career he earned the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Award, Army Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal–WWII, American Campaign Medal–WWII, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon, and the Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon. After retirement, Roy returned to Lafayette and served as a Revenue Auditor for the State of Louisiana, retiring in 1987. He was then employed as an auditor for the local government until 1993. Before his military career, Roy was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Church Point Council, serving as the youngest Grand Knight (1947) ever elected in Louisiana at that time. Upon his return to the area in 1975, he again became an active member in the Knights of Columbus Fatima council and St. Pius X council. The family requests that visiting hours be observed Friday from 10:00 am until 9:00 pm and continue Saturday from 8:00 am until time of service. A rosary will be recited Friday at 7:00 PM in the funeral home. Pallbearers will include Michael Barousse, Philip Barousse, Patrick Barousse, Jerry Barousse, Christopher Barousse, and Adam Barousse.
