The Life of Anne Mathilde Olivier

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for Anne Mathilde Olivier, 85, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at Lafayette General Medical Center.Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.Reverend Monsignor Keith J. DeRouen, Rector of Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Cathy Faulk and Donna Olivier. Giftbearers will be her granddaughters. Dave Domingue and Jodi Bollich, vocalists, accompanied by Tom Niel, organist, will sing for the services, "On Eagles' Wings", "Ave Maria", "Amazing Grace" and "Battle Hymn of the Republic". She is survived by three daughters, Anne DeSandro and her husband, Daniel, Mary "Cathy" Faulk and her husband, James both of Lafayette and Helen Briggs and her husband, David of Opelousas; two sons, Leo Rene Olivier and his wife, Debbie of Youngsville and Neal E. Olivier and his wife, Donna of Lafayette; seven grandchildren, Tiffany Collette and her husband, Scotty, Angela Olivier, Danielle DeSandro, Luc Faulk, Jacob Olivier, Suzanne Olivier and Alice DeSandro; five great grandchildren, Julia Louise, Olivia Anne, Samantha Elizabeth, Levi Joseph and Ava Alyce; and two sisters, Sister Fatima Mouton and Marie Savoy.She was preceded in death by her husband, Lionel E. "Leo" Olivier; her parents, Rene and Elise Martin Mouton; and her brothers, Fred, Locke, Ernest, Buster and Tony Mouton.A native and lifelong resident of Lafayette, Louisiana, Mrs. Olivier was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend to all who knew her. She was a graduate of Spencer Business College and went on to marry the love of her life, Lionel Edward Olivier, in 1951.They shared 52 wonderful years together until his death in 2003. Together they raised five children and were incredible parents, grandparents and great grandparents. Anne never met a stranger and her smile and laughter always seemed to light up a room. She was a member of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church Community, St. John Altar Society, Catholic Daughters and St. Vincent de Paul. Mrs. Olivier worked as a volunteer at St. Joseph's Diner as well as other charitable organizations throughout Lafayette. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.Pallbearers will be Leo Olivier, Neal Olivier, Dan DeSandro, Jim Faulk, David Briggs, Luc Faulk and Jacob Olivier. Honorary Pallbearers will be Raymond Cordova and Scotty Collette.A Rosary will be prayed on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at 6:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home's Downtown Location.The family requests that visitation be observed on Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM and will continue on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until time of services.The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses and staff at Maison de Lafayette and the third floor nurses and staff of Lafayette General Medical Center, especially her caregivers, Shawna Martin, her great niece, Denise Breaux and her former caregiver, Christine Logan, for their kindness, compassion and gentle care given during her time of need.The family requests that donations may be made in Mrs. Olivier's memory to a charity of one's choice.
