Mr. Navarre is survived by his wife of 43 years, the former Eldine Dugas of Scott; three daughters, Carolyn Durio Fontenot and her husband Clint Fontenot of Lafayette, Heidi Durio of Durango, Colo., and Monica Navarre of Lafayette; two sons, Ronnie D. Durio of Lafayette and Mike Navarre of Lafayette; a sister, Verna Mae Guidry of Lafayette; and two brothers, Dallas Navarre and his wife Carolyn of Golden, Mo.; and Edward Navarre and his wife Janelle of Lafayette; eight grandchildren, Nicholas, Natalie and Jarred Fontenot, Heather Durio, Brett and Brandon Campbell, Derrick Rivorie and Logan Navarre; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arista Navarre and Olite Dugas Navarre; one son, Steve Durio; two brothers, Raymond Navarre and Leeray Navarre; a sister, Geneva Navarre; and a nephew, Randy Navarre.

Mr. Navarre grew up in Scott, served with the Armed Forces and owned and operated several retail establishments before working as a truck driver for PetroLane, with whom he ultimately retired.

He is fondly remembered by family and friends as a soft spoken and very loving cheerleader of others, often seeing in them the inner beauty and strength they didn''t see in themselves. His unconditional love for family was never so evident as when he fell in love with a woman and her four small children, raising the children as his own and later adding another two to the family that grew as one. He was a kind, generous soul, compassionate and hardworking, and, above all, humble and unassuming.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Thursday from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm and continue on Friday from 9:00 am until the time of service.

Pallbearers will include Ronnie Durio, Nick Fontenot, Jarred Fontenot, Brandon Campbell, Brett Campbell, and Ed Navarre.

A rosary was recited Thursday evening at 7:00 pm in the funeral home.

Delhomme Funeral Home, 705 Marie Street, Scott, is in charge of all funeral arrangements.
