The Life of Billy Gene Laborde

Funeral services will be held at a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, April 28, 2007, in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers in Lafayette for Billy Gene Laborde, 76. He passed away after a very courageous battle with cancer, on Wednesday, April 25, surrounded by his loved ones.

Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery in Lafayette, La.

Father Rex Broussard, Pastor of St. Basil Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Minnie Fontane Laborde; his eight children, Charlene Mullins and her husband, Doug, Diane Bullard and her husband, Dennis, Stephanie Stielper and her husband, Mark, Louis Laborde and his fiancee, Lisa Aguillard, Sandra Broussard and her husband, Lance, Richard Todd Laborde and his girlfriend, Lisa Lormand, William "Bill" Laborde and his wife, Andrea, Andre Laborde and his wife, Kelly; his 19 grandchildren; his sister, Juanita Seavey of Corpus Christi, Texas; brothers, Roland Laborde and Donald Laborde of Marksville; his sister-in-law, Bonnie Laborde of Lafayette; his former daughter-in-law, Kitty Laborde; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Zona Laborde and his brother, Louis T. Laborde.

Born in Marksville, Louisiana, in 1931, Mr. Laborde was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend to all, and a proud Navy veteran. He graduated from SLI, earned a Masters Degree at LSU, returned to SLI and earned an Education Degree, which he put to use 37 years in the Lafayette Parish School System. He began his teaching career at Alice Boucher and then at L.J. Alleman, where he eventually became Assistant Principal. He was the principal at S.J. Montgomery until his retirement from the Lafayette Parish Public School System. He then served as principal at St. Cecilia in Broussard for several years. He was an avid duck hunter, a huge Cincinnati Reds fan, and dearly loved his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Pallbearers will be his sons, Louis Laborde, Richard Todd Laborde, Bill Laborde and Andre Laborde and his grandsons, Aaron Mullins and Levon Bullard.

Honorary pallbearers will be his son-in-laws, Doug Mullins, Dennis Bullard, Mark Stielper, and Lance Broussard.

The family requests visiting hours be observed Friday, April 27, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and continue Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until time of service.

A Rosary will be recited Friday at 7:30 pm in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mr. Laborde''s name to Hospice of Acadiana, 2300 Johnston Street, Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503.

Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette, has been chosen to help with the arrangements.
