The Life of Russell Caffery

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2006 at 1:00 PM in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for Russell Caffery, 86, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 20, 2006 at his residence in Lafayette.Reverend Lloyd F. Benoit, Associate Pastor of Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, will officiate the services. Musical selections will be, "A Mighty Fortress Is Our Lord", "All Glory, Laud And Honor", and "Joyful, Joyful, We Adore You".Survivors include his beloved wife, Doris Ann Landry Caffery; four sons, Russell M. Caffery and his wife Susan of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Thomas G. Caffery and his wife Kathy of Orlando, Florida, Stephen D. Caffery and his wife, Carole of Lafayette, Louisiana, and David M. Caffery and his wife Suzie of Orlando, Florida; twelve grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.He was preceeded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Caffery, and one son Remy L. Caffery.A native and lifelong resident of Lafayette, Louisiana Mr. Caffery was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to all who knew him. He graduated from Southwestern Louisiana Institute "ULL" in 1939. Mr. Caffery served his country as a member of the United States Army, where he spent over 2 years in England serving as a combat engineer during World War II. He was self employed as a civil engineer for Russell Caffery & Associates for 20 years from 1955 to 1975. Mr. Caffery was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, a Member of Chorale Acadian, American Legion, and the Louisiana Engineering Society. He was also a member of Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church Community. Mr. Caffery was an avid outdoorsman and nature enthusiast which he shared with his children. After retirement he volunteered in his spare time at Acadiana Nature Station in Lafayette. He loved spending time with his family and friends and will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved him.Pallbearers will be, Russell M. Caffery, Thomas G. Caffery, Stephen D. Caffery, David M. Caffery, Jefferson Caffery and Jack Caffery.The family requests that visitation be observed on Saturday, July 22, 2006 from 10:00 AM until time of services.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Caffery's name to The Nature Conservancy, 4245 N.
