The Life of Doris Harrington

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Doris B. Harrington, 80, who passed away on at 2:00 pm on December 15, 2010 at Eastridge Nursing facility in Abbeville, LA, surrounded by her family and listening to her favorite Cajun music.

Reverend Austin Leger will be the celebrant and will conduct the funeral services.

Mrs. Harrington, a resident of Lafayette, LA, was born on November 20, 1930 and was the daughter of the late Moise and Lucille Matherne Bourgeois. Doris was born and raised in Raceland, LA where she met her husband John who was working for Humble Oil Company in Grand Isle. There they began their family until he was transferred to Lafayette in 1963. She started working for H&R Block as a tax preparer and later became the manager of the branch. She went into business for herself and did taxes for approximately 38 years up until the time of her illness. She was also a member of the Holy Cross Sodality and acted as Treasurer for many years. Her favorite pastimes were playing Pokeno, traveling to Branson, MO, and listening to our local Cajun bands. She became friends with many of them and even could tell you the names of their wives and children and sometimes their grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Roxanne and Ted Thompson of Harrison, AR, her daughter and son-in-law, Marlene and Raymond Perry of Indian Bayou, LA, her son Stephen Harrington of Lafayette, LA, her daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Tom Szolis of Walker, LA, her son Randy Harrington of Lafayette, LA, her grandchildren Trista and Ben Curtis of San Antonio, TX, Shelly and Greg James of Harrison, AR, Danny Fortier of Broussard, LA, Macie and Damon Zoble of Broussard, LA, Camren Harrington of Monroe, LA, Claire Harrington of Monroe, LA, Garrett Harrington of Lafayette, LA, Brian, Chance and Desire Szolis of Walker, LA, and Sara Osmon Velasquez of Gretna, LA. She had four great-grandchildren; Zoe Fortier, Riley Zoble, Aiden Zoble and Benjamin Valesquez.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John D. Harrington and her brother, Elgin Bourgeois.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Tuesday from 9:00 am until service time. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday at 11:00 am in the funeral home.
