The Life of James Patin

Funeral Services will be held Monday, January 9, 2006 at a 2:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for Mr. James "Jimmy" Patin, age 82, who died Saturday, January 7, 2006 at 4:55 PM at his residence in Lafayette.  Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors by the Fort Polk Honor Guard.  Reverend Randal D. Barras, Pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milton will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the Funeral Services. Jodi Bollich, organist, will sing for the services, "On Eagles'' Wings", "Go Rest High On That Mountain", "Amazing Grace", "Here I Am, Lord" and "Be Not Afraid".  Survivors include his wife, Hazel B. Patin of Lafayette; one daughter, Joan Williams and her husband, Ray of Scott; two sons, Keith James Patin and his wife, Cindy and Jamie Ray Patin and his wife, Tisa, all of Lafayette; one step daughter, Rowena Bourque and her husband, Ronnie of Milton; one stepson, Stephen Venable and his wife, Debbie of Breaux Bridge; five grandchildren, Shawn Williams, Leah Bourgeois, Joshua Williams, Justin Patin and Evan Patin; one great grandson; two step grandchildren, Roxanne Breaux and Richelle Johnson and six step great grandchildren; eight sisters, Dorothy Landry, Anna Belle Steele, Delores Montet, Vivian Broussard, Verna Hebert, Lois Bonin, Linda Carlisle and Vicki Thompson.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel Mouton Patin; his parents, Gilbert and Annette Broussard Patin; four sisters, Clara Belle Patin, Judith Morvant, Kathleen Dore'' and Ruby Breaux and two brothers, Raymond Patin and Michael Patin.  A native and lifelong resident of Lafayette Parish, "Jimmy" was part of  "The Great Generation". He served his nation in the United States Army during World War II. Upon his return, he married, built his home with his own hands and raised a family.  He had a long successful career with the U.S. Postal System.  "Jimmy" enjoyed gardening, working in the yard and fishing.  He was an accomplished "finished" carpenter and cabinet maker. He was a active member of St. Joseph''s Catholic Community in Milton, where he served as an usher. Mr. Patin was very proud of his membership with the Knights of Columbus.  This kind, loving and gentle man will be missed by all who knew him.  His great faith sustained him to the end.  A Rosary will be prayed Sunday at 7:00 PM in the Martin & Castille Funeral Home by Deacon Cody Miller.  The family requests that visiting hours be observed Sunday from 4:00 PM until 10:00 PM and Monday from 8:00 AM until time of service.  Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Patin''s name to The American Cancer Society, P.O.Box 52884, Lafayette, LA 70505 or to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St., Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503.  Pallbearers are his two sons, Keith Patin and Jamie Patin; his grandsons, Shawn Williams, Joshua Williams, Justin Patin and Evan Patin and also, Stephen Venable and Ronnie Bourque. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Williams and Tony Bourgeois.   Martin & Castille Funeral Home, Inc. of Lafayette has been chosen to help with the arrangements.337-234-2311.
