The Life of Mr. Joseph Munley

Joseph J. Munley passed away on December 31, aged 90 years, after a battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Joseph was born in Jessup, PA to Thomas Emmett Munley and Bridget Estelle (Stella) (Brown) Munley on August 17, 1929, the youngest of five brothers. His parents, four brothers, and two infant sisters predeceased him.

Joseph is the dearly loved husband of Vivian (Boni) Munley, beloved father and father-in-law of Jeffry (Janet) Munley, Fairfield; Lyn (James) McGann, Silver Spring, MD; and Ann Munley, Plantsville, CT, and much-loved brother-in-law of Toni (Tom Lapinski) Valentin, Trumbull, CT.
He was a cherished grandfather to Lindsay Valentin, Sean (Dana) and Kelly Kish; Katherine, Megan and Grace McGann; and Iain, Erin and Alain Munley; great-grandfather to Wintyr Rose Kish and treasured uncle to many loving nieces and nephews. He loved his family above all else and enjoyed nothing more than being with them.

Joseph joined the Army at age 17, and served in Occupation Japan during 1946-47, stringing telephone wire and serving in the motor pool.

The Munleys have been long-time residents of Fairfield, and devoted members of St. Pius X Parish since its inception where he served as President of both the Home School Association and Holy Name Society, and as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist for two decades. He was a long-time member of the American Legion and the Gaelic Club of Fairfield.  He was a fixture to many Fairfield residents through his long-time employment at Milton’s Shoes where he worked for decades. His hobbies were building and gardening and he relished his many projects over the years.

A viewing will be held at Spear-Miller Funeral Home on Monday, January 6 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, January 7 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, Fairfield, followed by a burial at Oaklawn Cemetery, Fairfield.

In lieu of flowers, if preferred, donations to Hartford HealthCare Hospice (1290 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield CT 06109) would be appreciated.
