The Life of Mrs. Martha K. Carroll

CARROLL, Martha "Marti" (Chwaliszewski) Age 69, of Shelton, passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2021 at Bridgeport Hospital after a courageous twenty-year battle with breast cancer. Marti was the beloved wife of the late Thomas F. Carroll, who predeceased her in death in 2004.

Marti was born on June 7, 1952 in Chelsea, MA and lived in Revere and Saugus, MA before her move to Fairfield and Shelton, CT for the past thirty-nine years. She was the beloved daughter to the late John and Harriet (Hudson) Chwaliszewski. She was also predeceased by her father and mother-in-law Thomas F. Carroll and Rose (Dimodica) Carroll; as well as her brother John Chwaliszewski.

Marti is survived by her loving son Ryan Carroll and his wife Maureen (Reilly) Carroll of Beacon Falls, CT, and her daughter Amanda Carroll Kirik and her husband Kyle of Easton, CT. She was the loving grandmother of Logan Carroll, Paige Carroll, Morgan Root, Quinn Kirik, and Hudson and Cameron Kirik. She is also survived by her brother Paul Chwaliszewski and his wife Pat of Abington, MA, her four sisters and their husbands Mary Chwaliszewski and Steve Brady of Revere, MA, Rita and Peter Dignan of Windham, NH, Loretta Chwaliszewski and Frank Fallon of Revere, MA, and Helen Chwaliszewski of Saugus, MA; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Marti had a full life and loved adventure. She was a world traveler, including learning French and living abroad in Paris, France with her family. She loved her three "B's" - a beach, a book and a beverage. She loved nature, was never afraid to get her hands dirty and was an avid gardener who took great care to share her knowledge and love of gardening with everyone in her "hood". She knew every flowering plant or tree that she saw, and knew how best to grow and nurture them all. Marti was generous to many charities and organizations in the area. She had a big heart for all animals and was an active "rescue mom." Not only did she adopt a few, including her well-loved and spoiled Rudy, but she also fostered many throughout the years giving them an opportunity to find their forever homes.

Marti had many accomplishments throughout her life, but was very proud to tell people she was a licensed real estate agent and willing to help anyone she could. She would often help young families who obtained their first homes or apartments secure furnishings as well. She always made sure to take the time to greet everyone with a joyful hello, a kind word and a smile. She had a special connection to her "wig sisters" and was strong for all of them through many courageous battles. She believed in the legend of the dragonfly and she shared the peace and hope they bring to all.

Friends and family may greet her family at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Rd., FAIRFIELD on Sunday, September 19, 2021 from 12-2PM, with a service at 2PM. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Norma Pfriem Breast Care Center, 111 Beach Road, Fairfield, CT 06824. To share an online condolence, please visit
