The Life of MERLYN ROBERT HAMMOND

Merlyn (Mick) Hammond was born the only son of Jeanette Fankell Hammond in Fertile, Iowa on September 22, 1932. He joined our Heavenly Father on October 31, 2011. Merlyn lived his early years in Northern Iowa and joined the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict in 1950, and was honorably discharged in 1953. Merlyn worked as a mechanic at American Can Company in Des Moines and retired in 1994. He was a member of Antique Acres. He had a great love for his family and friends and will be sadly missed by those who were close to him. Those left to cherish his memory are his partner, Marjorieann Quesenberry,and his caregiver, Kelly Weikum, two daughters, Sheryl (Dan) Kaler of Edmond, Oklahoma, Aimee (Jim) Stier of Des Moines, and one son, Matthew (Melita)of Des Moines, four grandsons, David and Gabriel Kaler, Maximum and Samson Hammond; two grand daughters, Cassandra Hammond,and Shelbee Stier; two great grandchildren, Mekhi and Azlin Kaler;one brother,Weston (Bill) Cottrell of Mason City,Iowa and a sister,Dixie Riensmoen of Manly, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his Mother Jeanette and Father Earl Hammond. Funeral services will be Friday, November 5, 2011 at 10 a.m., Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 4, at Highland Park Funeral Home, 3500 6th Avenue.
