The Life of STEVEN HENRY CORELL

Steve Corell, 74, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2011, at home in West Des Moines. He was born July 30, 1937, in Des Moines to Stan and Christine (Brauchler) Corell. Steve was an independent thinker and those who knew him would call him a self-made man and entrepreneur. He started Corell Contractor, Inc. with one end loader digging residential basements in 1959, and grew the business into one of the most successful excavating and grading companies in the Midwest. Steve also established the KYBO Company as well as other various businesses in the Des Moines area. Steve graduated from Tech High School. He was a board member of Operating Engineers Local #234. Steve was a visionary – an American Picker before it was cool. He enjoyed his collection of cars, antiques, and pressed steel toys, as well as refinishing furniture and attending car shows. Steve was a wine and cigar aficiando and found joy in spending time with his family and friends. He had a great sense of humor, was a kind, honest, and loving man who touched many lives. Steve will be missed by all who knew him and those who were privileged enough to call him friend. Steve is survived by his loving wife, Mary; children, Reneé (Mark) Corell-Newman, Grant (Sarah) Corell, Robert (Deana) Hosier, Sheri (Todd) Budzik, Theresa (Darin) Zabel, and Jennifer (Jason) Buchkowski; 11 grandchildren; sisters, Jodine (Bob) Coy and Nancy (Howard) Hecker. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family will greet friends from 3 to 8 p.m., Thursday, October 20, 2011, at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 21, 2011, at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway, West Des Moines, with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Rifle Association in loving memory of Steve.
