The Life of MENEERAH KELLEY

Meneerah Kelly came to Pennsylvania with her father, mother and four sisters from South Carolina. She was the oldest of five girls and lived her life helping and giving to her family and friends. Meneerah Kelley was a Small Business owner during a period in the 50's when few Black Women were business owners. She ran two different Hair Salons in the Pittsburg area for over two decades. She closed shop to take care of her aging parents. She was married to Sulayman Kelley for 48 years before his death. She lived a rich and full life and often told me she had absolutely no regrets. She never had any children of her own, but she helped raise nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews all with a giving hand and an open heart. She was kind to everyone she met and accepted all for who they were. She was a horticulturalist, developing her own special flowers; she loved to garden - plants and vegetables. In her later years she did succumb to dementia, arthritis and artery complications. She lived to be 92 years old and said that if she lived past her mothers’ age at the time she died she had accomplished something. She lived three years past her mothers’ age. Meneerah Kelley was loved by ALL who knew or came in contact with her. Her kind and positive soothing spirit made you feel comfortable in her presence, "Like Family". I Love her, I miss her, I live in her IMAGE
