The Life of HERBERT HARRIS OLSON

Herbert Olson, 86, of Ankeny, Iowa passed away peacefully Monday, August 22, 2011, at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, August 26, 2011, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the funeral home. Born July 12, 1925, in Roland, Iowa, Herb was the son of Hazel Olson-Lemon. He attended Roland schools before serving his country in the United States Army during WWII. Herb was one of the brave who stormed Omaha Beach on “D” day. As a proud Veteran, he earned two purple hearts and bronze stars. Herb married Frances Graves in 1946. For 42 years, Herb worked as a machine operator at Frye Copy Systems. He enjoyed fishing, western music and movies, Iowa Hawkeye football, and visiting with family. Herb is survived by his wife of 65 years, Frances; daughters, Kathryn Arts and Susan Zeroni; four granddaughters; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Olson-Lemon; son-in-law, Dale Arts; and grandson, Kyle Zeroni. A loving and devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Hero is how Herb will be remembered. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Herb.
