The Life of Luther C Lain

LUTHER CALVIN LAIN SR YOUNGSTOWN – Funeral services will be at noon Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, at the F.D. Mason Memorial Funeral Home Inc. for Luther Calvin Lain Sr., 83, who departed this life Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center. Mr. Lain was born June 20, 1927, in Hobson City, Ala., a son of J.D. Lain and Theina Forbes Lain. He had worked for Valley Mold & Iron, was a bus driver for the Youngstown Schools and was an assembler at General Motors. He was a bowler for F.D. Mason Classic, Monday Night Mix, Howgren Heating & Cooling, B&B Mix, Bob’s Bail Bonding and Swan Mix Bowling leagues. He was a former president of a motorcycle club and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He leaves his children, Gwendolyn Ligons of Eastaboga, Ala., Luther C. Lain Jr. and Phyllis (Horace) Martin, both of Oxford, Ala., Paula Cummingham of Los Angeles, and David (Marcella) Lain of Youngstown; a sister, Mary D. Wright of Boston; a stepbrother, Erol Lain of Anniston, Ala.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a stepsister, Angenette Lain. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home
