The Life of ALMON GILMORE WELCH

Almon G. "Gilly" Welch, 80 of Marshalltown died of a heart ailment Tuesday at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.  Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Hamilton''s Near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home with burial in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Welch was born in Cedar and had lived most of his life in Des Moines.  He was a retired heavy-equipment tire builder for Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. and an Army veteran of World War II.  He enjoyed bowling, horseshoe pitching competitions, coaching Little League baseball and was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.  He was a member of United Rubber Workers.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; four sons, Gavin of Elkhart, Terry of Polk City, Gerry of Des Moines and Randy of Urbandale; a daughter, Cindy Dacus of Ankeny; two brothers, Perc of Fortuna, MO, and Curt of Knoxville; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
