The Life of VERNON C ROBBINS

Funeral services for Vernon C. Robbins, 85, who died of Alzheimer''s Wednesday, February 23, at the Indianola Good Samaritan Center in Indianola, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 26 at the Overton Funeral Home. Masonic services will be held 7:30 p.m.Friday evening at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Highland Memory Gardens in Des Moines. Born in Des Moines, Iowa, Vernon was a graduate of Lincoln High School. He served in the United Sates Coast Guard during World War II. He was retired and had been employed for 33 years as a calendar operator at Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. He had later worked as a greeter for the Indianola Wal-Mart. He was a member of the Union Local #310, the Auburn Masonic Union Park #592, V.F.W., and American Legion. He was a hobby farmer and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing the trumpet. Surviving are his wife, Gladys of rural Indianola; two sons, Vernon II of rural Norwalk and David of rural Indianola; a daughter, Kareen Mitchell of Pleasant Hill; five grandchildren; one step-grandson; and 14 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 25 at Overton Funeral Home. The family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer''s Research. >>
