The Life of JOHN RICHARD HANIFEN Sr.

John R. Hanifen, Sr., 59, of 202 S.E. Third St., Ankeny, died of cancer Thursday at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Hamilton''s Near Highland Memory Gardens. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Hanifen was born in Des Moines, where he lived most of his life. He lived in Ankeny for the past 28 years. He retired in 1979 as owner of Hanifen Body and Paint Co. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Boline-Manfredi Post No. 9662, Albaugh-McGovern Post, No. 42 of American Legion and Elks Lodge No. 98 in Pleasant Hill. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines following World War II and of the U.S. Army in Korea. Survivors include his wife, marian; a son, John R., Jr., and a daughter, Joan Cress, both of Ankeny; two brothers, James E. of West Des Moines and Robert E. of Dallas, Texas; and a grandchild. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American c ancer Society or the American Heart Association.
