The Life of VELMA JEAN BOWMAN

Velma J Bowman, 81, was called home on Sunday, March 12, 2006, at Iowa Health Hospice Taylor House. Funeral Services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, March 16, 2006, at Westchester Evangelical Free Church, 4919 Aurora Avenue, with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from noon to 6 p.m., with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m. at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue. Velma was born June 24, 1924 in Fayette to Ray and Iona Potter. She graduated from Fayette High School and married Lloyd Bowman on May 8, 1954. Velma was a warrior for God and dedicated her life to children's ministries. She was a member of Highland Park Evangelical Free Church, Westchester Evangelical Free Church, and White Cross Ministry. Velma is survived by her husband, Lloyd; children, LaVonne Sturtevant, David (Linda) Bowman and John Bowman; grandchildren, Charlie, Cynthia, Dean, DeAnna, Chris, Mollie, and Alex; great-granddaughter, Michelle; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, two sisters and her youngest daughter, Mary LuJean. Memorial contributations may be given to Child Evangelism Fellowship of Iowa or Westchester Evangelical Free Church.
