OBITUARY OF GEORGE MARSHALL--George
Bruce Marshall was the son of George and Lydia Marshall, and was born near
Monroe, Iowa, on May 14, 1869. He died at his home north of Altoona, Iowa, on
November 22, 1946, at the age of 77 years, six months and eight days.
Mr. Marshall grew to manhood on a farm
near Monroe and attended school there. Later he attended college at
Battle Creek, Michigan.
He was united in marriage to Elvira B.
LeGrand, October 10, 1894, and Mr. and Mrs. Marshall were happily married for
over 52 years.
Surviving him are his loving wife,
Elvira and three brothers, R.J. Marshall, Grand Junction, Colorado; J.B.
Marshall of Steamboat Springs, Colorado; Meek Marshall of Mitchellville, Iowa.
Also there are five nephews and seven nieces.
He had been continuously ill for the past
six years with a weak heart, and was completely paralyzed the past nineteen
weeks. Mr. Marshall was a fine man, honest and upright and a great homebody. He
loved the simple things of life and his chief interest was his farm and his
home.
During his illness, the nurse who took
care of him became very dear to him through her gentleness. He was always
grateful for the care he received.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, November 25th, from the Altoona Methodist church, with Rev. C.C. Miller, minister of the Osceola Church of Christ, and formerly of Altoona, conducting the services assisted by the Rev. F.B. McCarthy, of the Altoona Christian Church. A male quartette consisting of Worth Champion, Doyle Champion, Wilbur Yount, and Gordon Gill, sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and a solo, "Goin'' Home" was sung by Gordon Gill. Interment was made in the Highland Memory Gardens, north of Des Moines.
