The Life of MARGARET LOUISE MEADOWS
Margaret Louise Retherford Longworth Meadows, 86, died October 3, 2005 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Saturday at Southtown Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Southtown, where the family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m.
Margaret was born February 15, 1919 to parents, Anna and James Franklin Retherford of Des Moines. She graduated from East High School in 1937. Margaret joined the Navy in 1943 and served as a naval nurse until 1948. She helped to sart the Heart Station in 1949 with Drs. From, Myerly, Gustafson and Marquillies. She was a past PTA president and started Reading Is Fundamental program at Park Avenue Elementary. Margaret worked for Equifax until her retirement.
She is survived by her son, Joseph; daughter, Mary Keener, both of Des Moines; grandson, Joshua (Teresa) of Ankeny; granddaughter, Tera (Matthew) Yoder of Des Moines; great-grandsons, Nicholas of Ankeny, Alex, Owen and Matthew Yoder of Des Moines; great-granddaughters, Abigail of Ankeny, Ellie Yoder of Des Moines. She ws preceded in death by her parents; and sons, David in 1983 and Andrew in 2004; and grandchildren, Angela and Scott, children of Andrew.
