The Life of DWAYNE DALE VAN OORT

Dwayne Dale Van Oort, 77, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 26, 2003.  After a long illness, he died peacefully at home surrounded by his family.  Visitation will be from 6 to 9 .m. Friday, October 31 at Hamilton''s Near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be Saturday, November 1, at 2 p.m. at the Ankeny E-Free Church, 118 NW Linden Ave. in Ankeny.  Interment will be at a later date.

Dwayne was born September 22, 1926 at home in Lyon County, Iowa to Herman and Ottolena (Barendregt) Van Oort, the first of six children.  He was a graduate of George Iowa High School.  He married Dolores Manlove on September 4, 1949.  At an early age he worked for relatives in the restaurant business.  Dwayne was a salesman for the Clear Lake Bakery from 1950 to 1959.  Then owned and operated Northwest Erection Services from 1959 until 1991.  Starting in Clear Lake, he moved his business to Des Moines in 1966 and his family to Ankeny in 1967.

He was proud of his building involvement accomplishments.  Capitol Square, many downtown Des Moines sky walks and parking structures, Civic Center, Carver-Hawkeye Arena, enclosure of Merle Hay Mall, Valley West Mall, South Ridge Mall and several Principal Financial projects were just a few.  Dwayne was a member of the Vine Street Gospel Chapel in Des Moines.  He loved traveling and attending special church meetings around the country.  The special bonds that he had with people were an important part of his life.  Dwayne also enjoyed his garden and spending time with his grandchildren.

Dwayne is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dolores; children Steve (Darlene) of Ankeny, Terry (Cheryl) of Ankeny, Sherry (Steven) Gill of Colfax, and Tim (Mindy) of Urbandale, and 11 grandchildren, Thomas, Johnathan, David, Sarah, John, Josh, Jeremy, Jake, Anna, Amee and Stephanie; sister, LaVonne (Marvin) Hanson of Kansas City, MO and brothers, Homer (June) of Garner, IA and Larry (Pat) of Cedar Falls, IA.  He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Roger and Cornie.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made to the Hospice of Central Iowa and the Dwayne Van Oort Memorial Fund.
