Services for George M. Virden, 88, of 210 S.E. Pleasant View Drive, who died of cancer Monday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lillian Sims of 3400 E. Arthur Ave., will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at Hamilton''s Funeral Home. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Virden, a retired painter, had been ill a month. Born at Ottumwa, he lived here 78 years. He was a member of Sheltering Rock Church.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Sims, Mrs. Alice McCoun, Mrs. Norma Rabe and Mrs. Helen Morrison, all of Des Moines; five sons, Albert of Marne, John and Kenneth of Des Moines; Herman of Carlisle and Walter of Hartford, 21 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
