The Life of ORVILLE DANIEL HELM

Services for Orvill Daniel Helm, 53, a supervisor at the State Training School for Boys at Eldora and formerly of Des Moines, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Dahlstrom Funeral Home. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Helm died of a heart ailment Monday in Community Memorial Hospital at Clarion. He underwent major heart surgery at a Rochester, MN hospital December 12, when three plastic vlaves were inserted in his heart.

He was convalescing at the home of a sister in Clarion when his condition grew worse Friday.

Surgeons at Rochester said Mr. Helm was the only person in this country who has lived more than a few hours after a triple-plastic-heart-valve insertion.

Mr. Helm was born in Des Moines and lived here 30 years. He was a member of the Methodist Church, the Montague Masonic Lodge at Eldora and Ascension Chapter of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs. C.A. Helm of Story City; three sisters, Mrs. Don Hawbaker of Clarion, Mrs. Lorna Witter of Des Moines, and Mrs. Irene Lincoln of Azusa, CA., and four brothers, Gaylord and LeRoy or Des Moines, Lyle of Story City and Leon of LaPuente, CA.
