The Life of LEON LANDIS LONG

Leon Landis Long, 96, of the 3700 block of Cornell Street died of a heart ailment Monday at Kavanagh House on Grand in West Des Moines. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Hamilton's Near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Long was born in Pioneer, Ohio, and had lived in Indiana before moving to the Des Moines area in 1926. He was a retired actuary and senior contract writer with Principal Financial and a member of Indianola Heights Evangelical Free Church, East Camp of Gideons and Society of Actuaries. He is survived by a daughter, Elaine Long of Des Moines; a son, Charles of Polk City; a brother, Kenneth of Venice, FL; four grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchldren. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to his church, Gideon Society or Hospice of Central Iowa.
