The Life of JOY MARIE BELLIS
Joy M. Bellis, 64, peacefully passed away at Iowa Methodist Hospital on Friday, March 10, 2006 surrounded by her family and friends after a courageous battle against breast cancer. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at Oakwood United Methodist Church in Pleasant Hill, 400 NE 56th St. Visitation will be held Monday from 2 to 8 p.m. with family present from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hamilton''s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.
Joy was born April 27, 1941 in Des Moines to Ray and Bernice Smith. She graduated from East High School in 1959 and married Buddy Bellis on February 20, 1959. Joy was a member of Oakwood United Methodist Church and Easton Place United Methodist Church. She was also an active member of the Red Hat Society and volunteered at Pleasant Hill Elementary School.
Joy is survived by her husband, Buddy; her children, Buddy (Steffany) Bellis Jr., Bryan (Catherine) Bellis, Debra (Brian) Christian, Brad (Laurie) Bellis, and Bret (Christy) Bellis; grandchildren, Amanda and Austin Bellis, Aaron, Brianna and Nicole Bellis, Abigail and Adam Christian, Lindsey and Meredith Batz, Lauren Bellis, Christian and Caitlyn Bellis; mother, Bernice Smith; brothers, Ray (Ellen) Smith, Jerry (Becky) Smith, and Glenn (Beverly) Smith; sister, Beverly Wade; and a host of other family and beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her father, brothers, Jack and Paul Smtih and sister, Betty Dyer.
Memorial contributions may be given to Oakwood United Methodist Church or the John Stoddard Cancer Center.
