The Life of MELVY EARNEST AMIS

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Westover Funeral Home here for Melvy E Amis, 78, of 1314 Forty-fifth St., who died Tuesday of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning.

Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens.

Born in Wayne County, he lived in Des Moines for 29 years, moving here from Clay County.  He retired in 1960 as a security guard at the Firestone Tire and Rubber Co.

He was a member of Enterprise Masonic Lodge in Sioux Rapids and of the VFW post and World War I Barracks 1123 in West Des Moines.  He was a member of the College Avenue Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma; two sons, Max of Peterson, and Donald of West Des Moines; three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Dawson of Ankeny, Mrs. Margie Danley of Des Moines, and Mrs. Bonna Thompson of Akron, Ohio; a brother, Ferris of Spencer; a sister, Mrs. Delia Casey of St. Joseph, Mo.; 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The family suggests that any memorial contributions be made to the College Avenue Christian Church.
