The Life of GWENETH BEATRICE NELSON

Gweneth "Gwen" Beatrice Nelson, 95, of Keokuk, died at 5:30 pm Tuesday, March 07, 2006 at Lexington Square in Keokuk.

Mrs. Nelson was born September 13, 1910 in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Earl R. and Carrie Moorman Williams.  She married Lorraine Russell "Ray" Nelson on May 22, 1934 at the Grace Methodist Church in Des Moines, Iowa.  He passed away on January 27, 1998.  She moved to Keokuk on September 5, 1942.  She was employed by Younker Brothers part time while at Drake and full time later as an Executive Secretary.  She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, having served as a chairman of various United Methodist Women Committees, Circle Leader, past president of UMW and a member of Administrative Board and Board of Trustees of the church.  She also was a member of the Chapter IG, P.E.O., chapter past president and delegate of Supreme Convention.  She was past president of Grace Goddard Circle of King''s Daughters and had also belonged to Graham Hospital Junior Guild, Mother''s Study Club, Newcomer''s Club, and served on YMCA Board, Red Cross Bloodmobile and Lee County Election Board.  She enjoyed playing bridge and was in a bridge club and a knitting circle.  She enjoyed her family, friends, traveling, reading, working crosswords, fishing and writing.

She is survived by a son, Russell Nelson and his wife, Carolyn, of Brooklyn Park, MN; a daughter, Carol Jean Nelson of Keokuk, Iowa; a grandson, Timothy R. Nelson of Brooklyn Park, MN; and two cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, March 10, 2006, at Trinity United Methodist Church with Dr. Emmanuel Dass officiating.  Burial will be held at 3:00 pm Friday in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa.

Visitation will be after 2:00 pm Thursday, March 9, 2006 at DeJong''s Funeral Home with family meeting friends from 7 to 9 Thursday evening.  A public P.E.O. Memorial service will be held at 7 pm Thursday night.

Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church elevator fund.
