The Life of GENEVIEVE FRANCES CARLSON

Genevieve Frances Carlson, 84, of Des Moines, died Sunday, May 18, 2003 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.  A funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 22, at All Saints Catholic Church in Des Moines.  Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens.

Genevieve was born March 10, 1919, in Black Hawk County, IA.  She graduated from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1946 and worked as a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center until her retirement in 1983.  Genevieve loved nursing and she cared for her patients with skill and compassion.  Afte retiring, Genevieve gave many hours of service to her parish, All Saints Church.  Genevieve enjoyed putting in a vegetable garden each year and sharing its produce with friends and neighbors.

Genevieve is survived by her husband of 55 years, Glenn D. Carlson; her children, Susan Carlson of Lake Forest, IL, Michael (Mary Ann) Carlson of St. Louis, MO, Kevin Carlson of Urbandale, and Kathryn (Dennis) Reeves of Johnston; her grandchildren, Nicole Carlson of Gilbert, AZ, Dustin Traw and Jesse Traw of St. Louis, MO, Jon (Lauren) Reeves and Matt (Kristin) Reeves of Des Moines; her great-grandchildren, Grace and Shea Reeves of Des Moines; her sisters, Marie McKenna of Buckingham, IA, Florence (the late Wesley) of Hudson, IA, and Rita (Donald) Eckardt of Houston, TX; her brothers, John (Martha) McKenna of Hudson, IA, and Robert (Patty) McKenna of LaPorte City, IA; her sisters-in-law, Maxine McKenna of Dysart, IA, Marguerite (the late Earl) Roulstone of Cherokee, IA, and Lorena (the late Martin) Carlson of Eau Claire, WI; and many nieces and nephews.

Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Clara (Hayes) McKenna; her sisters, Maxine (the late Joseph) Nichols, and Irene (the late Walter) Brandt; and her brother Harold (Maxine) McKenna.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, at Hamilton''s Funeral Home near Highland Memory Gardens, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.  The family requests that in lieu of sending flowers, you consider making a donation in Genevieve''s memory to Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
