The Life of THOMAS R MCDIVITT

Thomas McDivitt, 60, of 5460 NE Sixth Ave. died Tuesday at Iowa Lutheran Hospital of complication of kidney cancer.  Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Merle Hay Funeral Home.  Cremation will follow, with burial in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. McDivitt was born in Urbandale and lived in the Des Moines area all his life.  He was a Des Moines police officer for 27 years before retiring in 1989 and was currently working as a custodian for the Des Moines public schools at Roosevelt High School.  He was a Marine Corps veteran.  He had been a member of Home Masonic Lodge, Hickman Church of Christ and several peace officer organizations.

Among survivors are his wife, Sandra; four daughters, Sheryl Heinrichs of Oklahoma City, Teresa Parker of Urbandale, Darcy Freeborn of Des Moines and Sonya Graziano of Altoona; five sons, Douglas McDivitt of Germany, Michael Wingfield, Steven Wingfield and Sean Thompson, all of Des Moines; a sister, Kathy Ballard of Des Moines; two brothers, Gene of Mesa, AZ, and Dale of Monticello, IL; and eight grandchildren.

Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m.
