The Life of JACK LEROY SMITH

Jack L. Smith, 70, of the 400 block of Northeast 48th Place died of a heart ailment Saturday at home.  Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hamilton''s Near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home, with burial in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Smith had lived in Des Moines all of his life.  He was a retired factory worker with the Ford Implement Plant, an Army veteran of the Korean War, and had served in the National Guard.  He was a member of Easton Place Methodist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars, and he enjoyed bowling and baseball.

He is survived by his wife, Pat; three sons, Robert of Olathe, KS, Paul of Des Moines, and Jim of Pleasant Hill; two daughters, Jackie Walkwitz and Patti Eslinger, both of Des Moines; his mother, Bernice Smith of Des Moines; three bothers, Ray of Johnston, and Jerry and Glenn of Des Moines; two sisters, Beverly Wade of San Jose, CA; and Joy Bellis of Des Moines; 13 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Amercan Diabetes Association.
