The Life of NELLIE GERTRUDE WHITE

Nellie White passed into the loving arms of her Lord on Wednesday, August 9, 2005 at the Iowa Health Hospice Taylor House.  Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, August 12, 2005 at Grant Park Christian Church, East 25th and Capitol with burial following at Highland Memory Gardens.

Nellie was born in Des Moines on October 14, 1915 to Dell and Elmira (Dempsey) Brubaker.  She graduated from North High School.  She married Earl L. White on July 6, 1937.  They loved to go fishing.  Many vacations were spent in Minnesota fishing.  She enjoyed cooking.  They would always have friends over for a fish fry.  She retired from Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. in 1971.

She was a member of Grant Park Christian Church where she always enjoyed helping at the church.  She was a Past Matron and 50 years member of East Gate Order of the Eastern Star.  She was a member of Mt. Olivet White Shrine, Daughters of the Nile, and Past Grand Royal Matron of Harmony Court No. 5 Order of the Amaranth.

She enjoyed crafts, sewing and her cats.  Her love of sewing was evident when she made her daughter''s wedding gown.  She loved her family and we will greatly miss her.  She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Tom Towers; her son and daughter-in-law, Lanny and Jan White; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; and her beloved cat, Shadow.  Preceding her in death were her loving husband, her parents and three sisters.

Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 11, 2005 at Hamilton''s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.  Memorial contributions may be made to Grant Park Christian church or the Animal Rescue League.
