The Life of LAIRD L JONES

Laird L. Jones, 78, of 3904 Seventy-second St., Urbandale, died Thursday at Crestview Care Center in Marion of cancer.  Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Merle Hay Funeral Home with burial in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Born in Grinnell, Mr. Jones lived in Des Moines 39 years.  He was a former agriculture teacher at Donnellson, Grinnell and Orange Township schools.  He was an insurance underwriter and owner of an agency for Allied Mutual Casualty Co.  He was a member of Urbandale Lions Club, Acanthus Masonic Lodge, Full Gospel Businessmen's Association International and Urbandale United Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Clara; a son, Robert of Marion; a daughter, Donna Courson of Lakewood, CO; a sister, Edith Howell of Grinnell, and five grandchildren.

The family suggests that any memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or Urbandale United Church of Christ.

Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
