The Life of LARRY LEE BUTTZ

DeLane Kay Buttz, 39, Larry Lee Buttz, 41, Lindsey Jean Buttz, 12, and Ryan Dean Buttz, 15, of 517 SE Wanda Drive, Ankeny, died at their home Tuesday of gunshot wounds. The deaths of Mrs. Buttz and the children are under investigation as homicides; Mr. Buttz is believed to have committed suicide.

Joint services for the family will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady''s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Ankeny. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines.

The children were born in Des Moines and had lived in Ankeny eight years. Lindsey, a student at Parkview Middle School, was a member of the confirmation class at Trinity Lutheran Church and participated in softball, gymnastics, soccer, track and the Iowa Games.

Ryan, a student at Northview Middle School, was a member of Trinity Lutheran and a trumpet player in the Ankeny Middle School Band. He had worked at Lorenz and Jones Marine Distributors and Super Wash Car Wash.

Mrs. Buttz was also born in Des Moines, where she lived prior to moving to Ankeny. She was a teacher''s associate in the Ankeny Community Schools and owner of Checkerboard Collectibles, Inc. She had been a member of Trinity Lutheran, where she was formerly a Sunday School teacher.

Mr. Buttz was born in Sioux Falls, SD, and lived in Des Moines 13 years before moving to Ankeny. He was a meat buyer at Super Value; a soccer, baseball, softball, football and track coach; and a member and former Sunday School Superintendent at Trinity Lutheran.

The children are survived by their grandparents, Robert and Beverly Park of Des Moines and Charles and Elverna Buttz of Ankeny; and their great grandmother, Martha Roll of Ankeny.

In addition to her parents and grandmother, Mrs. Buttz is survived by two sisters, Diana Shore of Bay City, MI, and Debbie Eittreim of Des Moines; and a brother, Robert Park Jr. of Naples. FL.

Mr. Buttz''s survivors, in addition to his parents, include two brothers, Cendyl of Slater and Greg of Ankeny; and two sisters, Merlene Gillund of Blue Grass and Vikki Buttz of Ankeny.

Visitation with relatives will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Our Lady''s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church. Relatives have suggested that any memorial contributions go for youth recreation programs conducted by the Ankeny Park Board. Contributions may be submitted to the Community State Bank in Ankeny.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Ankeny Funeral Home.
