The Life of JOHN J FITZGERALD
John J. Fitzgerald, 72, of the 2700 block of Hubbell Avenue died of a heart ailment Sunday at home. Services will be at noon Thursday at Hamilton''s Near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home, with burial in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Fitzgerald was born in Sharpsburg and had lived in Des Moines most of his life. He had been a welder for John Deere-Des Moines Works in Ankeny before retiring. He was a member of United Auto Workers and Wesley United Methodist Church and a Navy veteran. He enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; a daughter, Debra Carlson of Urbandale; three sisters, Norma Benning, Ann Van Laar and Doris Wookey, all of Grand River; two brothers, Charles and Bill of Des Moines; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Make a Wish Foundation.
