The Life of CLARENCE ELLISON SHAWVER

Clarence Ellison Shawver, 86, of 3404 E. Washington Ave. died of complications of Alzheimer''s disease Friday at Kavanagh House on Grand in West Des Moines.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Grandview Park Baptist Church, of which he was a member. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Shawver was born to Erwin and Margaret (Dillon) Shawver on November 1, 1912 in Indianola and lived in Des Moines most of his life. He was a retired lithographer and custodian for the Des Moines Public Schools.

He is survived by his wife, Selma; three daughters, Judith (Richard) Higday of Ankeny, Joanne "Jan" Shawver of Des Moines and Jean Shawver of Shiremanstown, Pa.; a son, Stephen of Des Moines; and four grandchildren, Lisa Higday, Richard Higday, Perry Shawver and Terry "Mike" Shawver; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Scott; parents, Erwin and Margaret Shawver,  brothers, Charlie, and James; sisters, Irene Engle, Eunice Hutton, Ilo Brown, and Dottie Pennenger

The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hamilton''s Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to his church.

Dad was a quiet man who loved his family and was very proud of each of us in our own personal talents. Dad was quick to compliment or praise for jobs well done and gentle in suggesting ways to do better if he thought we needed help. You couldn't find a better Dad.
