The Life of LYLE C STOCKER

Lyle C. Stocker, 60, of Des Moines, died Friday, November 21, 2003 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston after a courageous battle with cancer.

Lyle was born in Ottumwa on October 13, 1943 to Noah and Mary (Boyer) Stocker.  He graduated from Iowa State University in 1966.  He was a senior civil engineer for the City of Des Moines where he recently retired after 36 years.

He married Birdie May Walker on December 1, 1962.  They were blessed with three children:  Lisa (David) Stocker-Ross, and Joseph (Wendy) Stocker of Des Moines and Karen (Michael) Urick of Blue Springs, MO.

Lyle was a member of Wakonda Christian Church and The Gloryland Quartet.  His greatest pleasure in life was spending time with his family and friends.  He enjoyed Southern Gospel music, crossword puzzles, and playing cards.  He and Birdie also loved to travel.  He was a devoted Christian, husband, father, grandpa and friend.

In addition to his wife and children, Lyle is survived by his brother, Carl (Bonnie) of Des Moines, and his six grandchildren:  Jennifer, Michael, Jessica, Nathan, Lucas, and Mason.

A visitation will be held on Sunday November 23 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Hamilton''s Funeral Home at 605 Lyon St.  A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 24 at Wakonda Christian Church on Fleur Dr. beginning at 11 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Youth Endowment Fund-Wakonda Christian Church, and to Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
