The Life of KAREN ELAINE SWANSON PARNELL

Karen E. "K." Swanson Parnell, 41, of Perry died of cancer Sunday at home.  Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Receation Hall at Camp Dodge in Johnston.  Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens in Des Moines.

Mrs. Parnell was born in Des Moines, lived in Wichita, KS, Perry and Des Moines, and moved back to Perry in 1991.  She recently retired from military service, having been administrative assistant for the Army and Navy National Guard.  She was on the board of trustees at United Methodist Church in Perry, and a member of the Sweet Adelines choral group in Ankeny, Northwinds Chapter Chorus and Noncommissioned Officer''s Association.

She is survived by her parents, Frederick and Bernita Swanson of Des Moines; her husband,Stephen; three sons, Dana Cox and Christopher Cox, both of Norwich, KS, and Jason Parnell of Perry; three daughters, Valerie Cox of Norwich, KS, Amanda Parnell and Sephanie Parnell, both of Perry.

Friends may call all day today and Wednesday at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry, where the family will be present from 5 to 7 Wesneday evening.  Memorial contributions may be made to K. Parnell Fund at Travis Air Force Fisher House, K. Parnell Memorial Scholarship for Sweet Adelines or her church.
