The Life of OPAL L GARRELS YARD

Opal, 92, died Sunday, February 27, 2005 at Fleur Heights Care Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at Highland Park Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the funeral also on Wednesday. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Opal was born December 23, 1912 in Wyoming to Ransom and Florence Arnold. She was a bookkeeper and homemaker. She enjoyed needlepoint and reading. She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Harlan Garrels; her second husband, Ivan Yard; and her daughter, Cleone F Somsky; two brothers, Glen and Cecil Arnold; and sister, Farrel Oppedal. She is survived by daughter Maxine (Jerry) Matalone of Des Moines; step-daughter, Lois (Herold) Sanders of Reseda, CA; brother R.W. Arnold Jr. of Knoxville; half-brother Merle Fivecoat of Billings, MT; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Juvenile Diabetes or Hospice of Centeral Iowa.
